I think people have been contacted on weekends (especially by phone) in the past...

so yea I spent most of my day staring at my phone :(

i love the weekend, but president's day monday (meaning no mail) sucks. we have classes monday though - is that the same everywhere? if so, there still exists the possibility of e-mail acceptances...

UGH! And this year is a leap year... so they have a whole extra day to deny us our decisions!!! This is crazy...

Also, WTF is wrong with caltech... nobody has heard from them... last year people heard from caltech as early as 1/27!!!

We have classes monday too, <deleted by request>

yeah we get MLK day and Cesar Chavez day off, but not president's day. All this damn affirmative action...

At my college nobody even knows it's president's day as we still have class. In fact, we cancel class for no special day (Thanksgiving excepted). No clue if most schools are so anti-holiday, though.

yeah...we have class on monday too...
in spring sem we have mlk day off and fall sem has labor day holiday

oh no, all schools are anti-holiday. they are the exact opposite of banks, who will use any excuse they can possibly find to be closed.

i can't complain about holidays: we get a full week off for spring break, a day off for MLK, and 3 days off for mardi gras. and when you add that to the fact that none of my classes this semester take attendance...am i even in school?

We've gone a whole day without a post from RG

I just saw a really weird post in the lounge, I'm gonna stay away from there...

@grae

When I saw that your school gets Cesar Chavez Day off, I was shocked, but then I realize I was thinking of Hugo Chavez.

My school gets class off on Monday, but it doesn't make much difference to me, since I haven't been going to my classes anyway.

I got a call from a prof yesterday, and for a moment I was all excited that maybe I'd be getting accepted somewhere new, but then it turned out that he was at Wisconsin (where I had already gotten in).

A useful conversation none the less. I just wish I remembered more about his research -- I'd have had more intelligent things to say...

My school has classes on Monday too. Apart from turkey day, the only thing we get off is MLK day. Not doing so would be too politically incorrect I guess...

quiz, you might wanna chill with those comments about MLK day, etc., because you're getting pretty borderline offensive right there. thanks.

@ dlenmn

A similar thing happened to me. I got a call from a prof at the school I was accepted to. He was telling me the basics of his research and urging me to apply for an outside fellowship that would be very beneficial to win...

I had a hard time trying to tell him the reality that I've applied to 6 schools that I like almost equally, and I haven't hard from the other five yet, and that even if I went to his school, I might not want to do that area of research.

I asked him when the application deadline was, thinking I could apply later if I was more certain of going to his school... The deadline was within a week from the call. I just couldn't do that.

IT'S CALLED HUMOR, DOOM. EVER WATCH FAMILY GUY?!! SOMETIMES, IT IS FUNNY TO ACT REALLY UN-POLITICALLY CORRECT. DO YOU HONESTLY THINK WE DON'T RESPECT MLK AND BELIEVE HE DESERVES THE HOLIDAY?

some people are crazy on this forum quiz. YOu don have to give a *** to them.
This is what fermiboy told me the other day.

EDIT: It is so funny coz quiz is always under attack on this forum ( for no logical reason)
quiz be careful when you walk down the street with a chicken wing on your hand, u never know, some people might attack you for that ( half eaten)chicken wing as well.

was that too harsh? should I edit that?

Edit: I edited that

I dunno. I respect doom for being polite with his comment, so I don't want to see him get bashed in return, but hey this goes right along with the title of your thread, I HATE WEEKENDS, we should all be reveling in more acceptances now instead of sitting here frustrated with the halt in our progress because nothing happens on Sundays!!! Ugh!

Edit: HAHA RG!!

Edit 2: WTF!!

grae313, do you have the power to ban multigoal from the forum? lol he's out of control!

Wow, I didn't expect my comments to blow up so much.

To quizivex: Like I said, I thought it was borderline offensive. I didn't like the way I thought it was going. Maybe I jumped to conclusions, and I admit to being a little sensitive about the topic. No hard feelings on my part, and I tried to keep my comments as polite as possible, although I was somewhat offended. I thank you for responding politely and for taking down your comments. And if I made you mad, I apologize.

To grae: CHILL. This doesn't really involve you, that's why I addressed quiz by name. And no, I didn't think anyone was disrespecting Dr. King. I said "MLK, etc." to point out the comments that came after that. I do enjoy un-PC humor, but I didn't see the humor in those comments. Maybe I should have seen the sarcasm, but you know how sometimes it doesn't come across that way on the internet. I thought your response was unnecessarily harsh, but I've let myself cool off and won't escalate this. Let's put this behind us, okay?

I would like to present a proof of a theorem:

Assume:
This doesn't really involve you, that's why I addressed quiz by name.
Hence,
I said "MLK, etc." to point out the comments that came after that
contradiction!!!

So our assumption is incorrect.
QED.
thanks

EDIT: people do you think I will be a good Math Professor? Twistor create the poll, plz?

RG, although I know you were messing around, you showed me that I was unclear in what I meant.

I meant the statements in quiz's post (the same post) that came immediately after his MLK comments.

So you'd make a bad math professor. Or I'd make a bad lawyer. One of the two. ;)

doom, sorry for coming on a little strong there...

I just get REEEAALLY annoyed and frustrated when we are just joking around and people take it all literally and get offended. my boyfriend is hispanic and we were both making these same jokes earlier

grae,

I guess I hit one of your sore spots, just like one of mine was hit. Believe me, I've been known to make plenty of un-PC jokes that could be easily misinterpreted. It's funny when you're in on the joke, but if you come in from outside, it's not quite so funny. And you run that risk on a public website.

As far as I'm concerned, this is done with, and I harbor no hard feelings towards anyone in regards to this or anything else.

And if we start getting some acceptances this week, I think a lot of the tensions will go away.

I propose a moratorium on non-PC jokes because it's way too hard to judge intent and context online. Then we can all remain polite, peaceful and happy.

daaahhh ***!!! I missed this comment, I'm sure it must've been hilarious!!! ugh.
It was. That's why I recalled it within seconds of posting it. I don't want to give anyone the impression that I'm some kind of racist.

I like to think I say what other people are thinking even if they don't want to admit that they are thinking it.
But I do get the feeling that this forum is full of racist snobs...
That's totally wrong. Almost no one here is a snob. As for the rest of us, we have some sheets to launder...

Because we sweat a lot during the night. What the *** did you think I was talking about, you racist bastards?

That's right. Bicycles are the preferred means of transportation for all kinds of racists and swine. But not snobs. Snobs are too good for bikes.

yea hats off to those professors... on the first day of class they seem so old and can barely walk, but the next day you're ordering chinese from a food truck and they nearly run you over as they go wizzing by on their 10-speed bicycle without training wheels!

Twistor, WTF. You posted the same thing twice, 9 minutes apart. This could not have been an accident, you clearly did this to get to 600. I therefore am not congratulating you for your accomplishment. Sorry.
