fermiboy you are right about that. This waiting for letters business makes bad people out of the whole lot of us.

Remove your own, or use your god like powers to remove everyone's?

I used my godlike powers

I want as many people to post in that thread as we can get, and I think people are right that the comments don't help in that regard.

Yeah and I guess all the sad faces should go too... we don't want people to be discouraged if their score is less than someone else's who put a crying face next to theirs...

Comeone people, keep posting profiles, they're very helpful!!

So butsurigakhusa, looks like we're both still in contention for being the last to hear anything

Edit: Also, garden's fake profile should go... even though I'm sure it's teeming with secret messages... it doesn't belong on that thread!

yes, quizivex, your a re right about garden's post.

Anyways, congrats dlenmn. Do you know the living costs around Madison area by any chance or is there any way to look up online or something? Wisconsin is a great place.

EDIT: looks like garden's post is gone too. Thanks grae313 and quizivex.

Wow, everybody else here is calculating down to the penny what their financial situation would be at their schools and I'm still dying to get accepted

And does anybody else think it's funny that the posts that got "Moved:" are still here, lol?

quizivex, what do you mean by moved post?

@ VT

Oops I meant "moved thread"... the polls got moved from this part of the forum to the "physics lounge forum" but they still show up on this part of the forum...

not important, just funny, lol.

THANK YOU :P :P :P !!!

I thought about calling attention to my 300th on my last post, but I decided it would mean much more to me to have someone recognize my achievement on their own... Thank you so much!!!

congrats quizivex, for your 300th post, you can consider this equivalent to your first acceptance from a TOP choice school. P........ N.
Congrats again.

That's kind of like the lottery winners who complain about how miserable the money makes them. I'll gladly accept the misery you suffer.

quizivex: That's actually what my school's creepy neighborhood is like... I've been hit many times by pieces of trash (plastic bags, cardboard boxes...) blowing through the air. Dust from empty fields of dirt can blow into our eyes if we're not careful... We also need to try to circumnavigate bums that smell like alcohol and harass us for money. I've also been ran into by a stray cat and people here have often been bumped or nearly bumped by cars on crosswalks...
Now quizivex, you know I cannot allow you to sully the school THAT badly. It certainly doesn't match up to the pristine sylvan glades present on an ivy league campus, but it is not a cesspool of muck and mire either. I have never had an experience of garbage flying up and hitting me in the face! Plus on the campus of our local ivy league university, I distinctly remember being hit up for spare change a number of times by their local derelicts.

next time you should offer to go into the store and buy the person some milk and bread. If they refuse, you know they were full of ***. If they accept, than you are helping someone who really needs it.

grae313: next time you should offer to go into the store and buy the person some milk and bread.
That's what I do.

To quizivex:
Actually, I cannot remember the last unfortunate (euphemism for derelict) to cross my path on campus. The campus policemen are fastidious about patrolling the campus. Also, I have walked around the campus at 2 and 3 am without incident, and I have seen the little bright eyed suburban girls do the same without fear. I know you hate it, but it really isn't that bad. Even though the school's name has never been mentioned, I don't want people on here to think that there are crack ho's right outside of our classrooms waiting to solicit young undergrads for fellatio in exchange for chicken wings.

I was always under the impression that crack hos were hos for crack. I believe you're thinking of chicken wing hos, who ascribe to an entirely different profession.

Yea my solid state prof is making us write up notes and hand them in next week. She's under the (correct) impression that none of us are keeping up with the reading... I could write a bunch of BS and get by, but I'd rather actually try to understand this stuff and write good notes...

Part of my effort is being hindered by nervousness about grad school and part by Kittel's incomprehensible explanations.

Edit:

NOOOO! As soon as you add milk it is no longer solid state....[/quote]

I find that Kittel's book exists in a naturally gaseous state.

will, it's not called a natural state if you have to soak it with lighter fluid and then strike a match to get it there...

That'd make for a difficult read, will.

I barely remember solid state...that was over 1 year ago...ugh. Subatomic physics was much more entertaining, mainly because my professor asked beer questions, and a couple of keg questions. I never got a beer or keg question correct, but I'll be damned if we didn't go to bars frequently and drink beer and play pool regardless.

quizivex, what a coincident. I am also trying to read Solid State from Kittel, and I got ' turned off' with his that particular definition of primitive cell and went to the library to check out another book by German author. Also Kittel's books is full of graphs, pictures and no equations which I find extremely difficult to understand. I do not know how it became a classic book in Solid State :o

Yeah as far as I know, everybody hates that book. Professors only use it because it is the "standard" book... but how the hell did it become the standard? GRRR!!!

I can't follow his 3-D drawings. Every explanation of an concept is missing important details that are needed to tie the ideas into a coherent whole. I could give specific examples but there's really no point I'm sure nearly everyone here agrees.

How's this for a 2-D crystal ?

Wait no more!

When someone in need asks you to help them you simply explain to them that you have been playing an online game that automatically gives 20 grains of rice to the needy. This person is needy so they must have gotten at least some of this rice. Accuse the bum of spending his rice on alcohol and call him a filthy wino for wasting all of his precious grains. Ask him if he'd rather have a silo of grain or Night Train. Spit on him for wasting his rice. You've earned it for a generous donation of rice.

No one posts on them because they don't show up on the main page. If this were fixed, people would post there.
