Using same essay for SOP and fellowship?

UC San Diego's application lets you apply for a fellowship if you submit two essays in addition to your SOP.

Thing is, I feel like my SOP already interweaves answers to those questions in a cohesive way. Would it be ok to simply submit the same essay for my SOP and one of the fellowship prompts? I could split my SOP up into one part academic/research and another part personal, but I think it might diminish the effectiveness of the original essay. What do you guys think?

Your fellowship essays will probably not be read for admission purposes. So, I think it's okay to submit the same essay as your SOP but I think it might be worth revising/editing a bit to fit a different audience.
