October 19 PGRE

What did everyone think of the test today?

I thought it was much harder than the 2008 as well as the test I took in April. Other people there agreed.

I think it was good (= not too hard, but for sure not easy). For me, since I only had 10 days to study, I left many extremely easy questions just because I do not remember the formula.

But not too bad overall.

I thought it was digital - some dead easy questions and some real tough.

How much raw score3 do you reckon will fetch a 600 and a 700 in this one - I am thinking 35 and 42

The form I took I thought was much harder than the 2008 test. The test my 2 friends got today was about the same maybe easier as the 2008. They both answered north of 95 questions. We were scoring low 800's on the last practice for reference.

so is there a way to tell if I got the easy or the tough version?

I had a question about the [[deleted by admin]]

That sounds similar to their [[deleted by admin]] question. Hard to know. My advice would be to not obsess over it and whatever is done and done. Go have some fun.

sure ok - but oi am guessing they had the easy version - they could not have answered north of 95 questions in the tough version

I think that the title code of the test should have a letter H for the hard version.

It was way harder than the 08 to me. It appeared that it was 60% [[deleted by admin]] (my 2 weak spots). But maybe that's just me.

Yep, definitely harder than 2008 test, April test and September test. If there was an easy version though, will they all have the same scale? Or will each version have its own scale?

The test clearly says which form it is. In my case form 2.

whcih part opf the test was it said which form it was - front or back side?

I did about 80 question. I'm sure it was possible to solve about 90 question. I wasted time for 3 question plus the heavy headache I had. My exam was in Tehran, and for me, a guy from a small city in highlands(best weather), Tehran's weather pollution made me a headache sick. I don't know about result. But I'm hopeful to get a score higher than 850.

IIRC, on the front it says form 2.

On the back, however, there is form code, something like 2JGR...

I think you'll get that.

For me, I only had 10 days to study. It is ironic that, two years ago, I was studying for the PGRE but did not take it, but now I suddenly realized I need to take it so I had only 10 days to study. Of course, not too much time.
So I only answered around 63 questions. I left many very easy questions just because I didn't had much study.

I guess I will have 55 correct answers, so totally I expect ~700+/-50.

Isn't that a form with a question about the [[deleted by admin]] near the beginning of the test?

was this type 1 2 or 3 or A. B or C - the one with the [[deleted by admin]]

Question 3 or 4 for me was about [[deleted by admin]] (and, BTW, I did not solve it :D).

There was also a question (but not in the beginning) about [[deleted by admin]] etc. I answered it wrongly (Dam' it)

I hope I am not breaking any law by mentioning that.

As said, mine was "form 2". I did the exam in the USA.

Unfortunately, I didn't know that there is a mark on the test book about it's difficulty. I can say also that I had a question about the [[deleted by admin]] too. What a puzzle!

I wrote in september and on oct 19th, and I thought the version of the test I got on oct 19th was much much harder than any of the practice (except maybe the '96 one, though hard in a different way) and it was very different in style and types of questions than the other exams.

[[deleted by admin]]

Did anyone else get the exam I'm describing and thought it was pretty hard? (I don't know the form number etc). I'd been in the habit of leaving <10 blank on the practice exams and being pretty sure of my answers, but I left 20 blank on this one and felt like I guessed on many that I answered.. pretty disappointing to know that I could have gotten a more straightforward exam if I just sat somewhere different.

Luckily I thought the sept exam was very straightforward in comparison so I'm pretty sure I did well on that... but man this oct exam felt like a kick in the face!

Arg, I didn't think to check my test for a form code either. For what it's worth, I thought the test I took was about on par with the September test, which I also thought was about the same difficulty as the 2008 practice test. Also, if it helps, I can remember the first question had to do with [[deleted by admin]].

so does that mean getting only 40 right may fetch a 700, with so many "experimental/for the first time" questions??

I think that it depends on the form of your test because, as I understand, they use different statistical data for comparison with your result, but the questions from each exact test can differ a lot and all that tests are used in their statistics.

By the way, it's said in 2008 Practice Test Book that the Form C (which is the hardest?) gives 800 points on scaled score for 60 raw score points. And the table in the end of the practice test gives us the same relation. Does it mean that 2008's Practice Test has Form C type?

This is a good time to remind everyone that discussing questions on the PGRE violates the agreement you signed on your answer sheet to not disclose the questions to anyone.

That said, I think you guys need to chill out about the test. While you may think that this is so important right now, in all honesty, it's not. Yes, it's an important part of the application, but in the big scheme of things thirty years from now no one is going to care what your PGRE score was. Sure, if you don't do well enough on the test, it could keep you out of your top choice school. But if your happiness depends solely on what grad school you get into, etc, you're going to end up incredibly miserable in your life. Do you really want to give the people on an admissions committee that much power over you? If they don't think you're good enough to be at their school simply because you couldn't answer some questions fast enough on some test, screw them. There's a lot more to life than just some silly test (or spending hours on end in a lab performing some experiment only to make some professor famous, for that matter). Go and enjoy life. This crap isn't worth getting worked up over.

ok fine - in this exam what do you think the raw score - final score conversion will be like. I think like this - what do you have to say??

... A.....B....C
40 500 520 540
50 580 600 620
60 660 680 700
70 740 760 780
80 820 840 860
90 900 920 940
